Prepared Hero × American Hiking Society
Two Names You Trust,
Made For Everyone Who Explores
Founded in 1976, American Hiking Society (AHS) began as a small group of passionate hikers who saw a growing need to advocate for national trail protections. AHS has grown into the leading national voice for trail preservation, volunteer stewardship, and outdoor advocacy. From backcountry wilderness routes to urban greenways, AHS works nationwide to make sure trail access is never limited by geography, background, or experience level.
Caring for the outdoors isn’t just about policy; it’s about hands-on service and community connection. Through programs like National Trails Day® and Volunteer Vacations, AHS brings people together to care for public lands and protect the hiking experience for generations to come.
We know that feeling secure on the trail is the foundation of building a lifelong passion for nature. By pairing Prepared Hero’s dedication to personal safety with AHS’s legacy of trail stewardship and advocacy, this special edition alarm gives hikers peace of mind on every adventure while directly funding the protection of the trails underfoot.

What Makes the Prepared Hero™ Defense Alarm 2.0
Smarter, Louder & Safer Than the Rest

The Old Way
Only Works If You Aim
Wind, distance, and shaking hands all get in the way. Under stress, most people never get the safety cap off.

Hero Defense Alarm
Works Without Aiming
Pull the pin from any angle, in the dark, with one hand. The siren does the rest.

The Old Way
Dead Batteries, No Warning
Coin cells drain quietly in a drawer. You find out it’s dead the one time you pull it.

Hero Defense Alarm
Rechargeable, With A Warning Light
About 1 hour on USB-C, months of standby, and a low-battery indicator so it’s never a surprise.

The Old Way
Easy To Drown Out
Under 120 dB, sound fades behind traffic, wind, or a closed car door. Nobody looks up.

Hero Defense Alarm
133dB That Carries
Loud enough to punch through parking garages, apartment walls, and street noise.

The Old Way
Buried At The Bottom
A safety tool you have to dig for costs the exact seconds you don’t have.

Hero Defense Alarm
Clipped Where You Reach
The oval carabiner keeps it on your keys or strap — visible and ready in one motion.

The Old Way
Accidental Pull, Empty Battery
One bump in a bag and older alarms scream until they’re drained flat.

Hero Defense Alarm
Shuts Itself Off After 5 Minutes
A built-in timer silences accidental pulls so the battery is saved for the real thing.

Somewhere you can reach without taking your pack off — a shoulder strap, hip belt, or belt loop works best. The carabiner clips on in seconds, so you can move it between your pack, keys, and daypack as plans change.
Push the pin back into the top and the siren and strobe stop immediately. If it’s left going, it shuts itself off after 5 minutes to save the battery.
Yes. The Hero Defense Alarm is TSA-friendly, so you can keep it clipped to your carry-on or daypack through security and have it ready the moment you land — whether you’re heading to a trailhead or exploring a new city.
AHS supports trail stewardship and advocacy nationwide, working on public lands from local community parks and state forests to major national parks and scenic wilderness routes.
You can join an AHS Volunteer Vacation, participate in National Trails Day®, or look for local trail maintenance projects through the AHS website at americanhiking.org.
