How To Get The Most Out Of Your Fire Blanket
So you have your Prepared Hero Fire Blanket. Congrats ;)
You may never end up needing it, but that's a good thing!
It's a small investment that for some people, has saved their homes from burning down and potentially saved their life.
Here are a few tips to get the most out of your fire blanket.
We'll be talking about where to store your fire blanket, how to use it, when to use it and more.
What are the best storage locations for a fire blanket?
Think high trafficked and fire hazard areas.
- Kitchen: Over 50% of all house fires start in the kitchen.
- Grill: Greasy foods or a grill that gets a little too hot can cause a fire.
- Garage: Working on vehicles or motorized gadgets.
- Workshop: Tools are prone to electrical fires and getting too hot.
- RV/Boat/Vehicle: Compact and perfect to carry on the go.
- Campfire Pit: Consider the XL fire blanket for larger pits.
Hanging vs Drawer: How should I store my fire blanket?
We always recommend hanging it if you can. Greater visibility leads to a higher chance that it actually gets used during a fire emergency.
Hanging is important for two reasons.
- It makes it noticeable for everyone, including guests who might need to react in a fire emergency.
- When a fire breaks out, panic sets in and remembering what to do isn’t always easy. You are less likely to forget about using your fire blanket if it’s hanging nearby.

When should I use my fire blanket?
When a fire breaks out that can be contained within the size of the blanket, this is when you should use it.
We recommend pulling out the blanket and getting familiar with the size in case you ever need to use it. Don’t worry, they are easy to fold up and put back in the pouch.
How do I use my fire blanket?
In an emergency, you need to act fast and the fire blanket is designed to allow anybody to easily use it.
Step 1: Pull the tabs at the bottom to release the fire blanket.
Step 2: Toss the fire blanket over the fire, leaving no airflow for the fire to breathe.
Step 3: Leave it for approximately 10 minutes to ensure the fire is completely suffocated.
Inform the entire household
Now that you understand everything there is to know about a fire blanket, it’s time to inform the rest of your household for everyone's safety and peace of mind.
They should be familiar with what a fire blanket is, where they are located, when to use them and how they work.
If you have children, we recommend showing them a mock scenario by pulling the blanket out and tossing it over a kitchen pan that’s not in use.
BONUS: Wrap it around yourself!
In a fire emergency, you can’t always put the fire out in time. Sometimes it spreads too big, too quickly. In this scenario, the best option may be to grab your fire blanket and wrap it around your or your loved ones to help escape a fire without harm.
We carry XL blankets that are great for this purpose. They are large enough to wrap around your entire body.
Please NEVER go back for your fire blanket if it puts you at risk. Only grab it if it’s easily available and can aid you in a fire escape.
Final Note: Consider showing family and friends too! Not many people know that a fire blanket even exists. There are over 450,000 house fires yearly. We are on a mission to drop this number by educating as many people as possible!
