Carbon monoxide (CO) is a dangerous gas that you can’t see, smell, or taste. But does it rise or fall?...
Did you know? Children ages one to five years are more than twice as likely to die in a fire than older ones. Fire injuries also increase in adolescence since being a teenager often means risky behavior.
Teaching your kids how to use the Hero Fire Spray makes them more comfortable and confident during a fire. While this sounds easy, many parents struggle to teach their kids about using fire safety tools.
In this post, we’ll help you teach your children how to use the Hero Fire Spray.
Teaching Kids How to Use the Hero Fire Spray in 4 Steps
The Hero Fire Spray is safe for kids, so they can use it even when you’re not around. Here’s how to teach your children how to use the Hero Fire Spray:
1. Introduce the topic carefully.
Don’t scare your child when talking about fire. Educating them doesn’t have to sound like a scary movie. Remember, your kids won’t likely act if they become too afraid of fire.
Introduce fire safety by having one-on-one discussions with your kids. You can also bring the topic up more casually, like when you talk about movies, play games, or enjoy make-believe scenarios.
For children, anything practiced in play can be learned and habitual, including following escape plans, calling the firefighters, and using the Hero Fire Spray.
2. Demonstrate how to use the Hero Fire Spray.
Tell your kids that the Hero Fire Spray can put out small fires. If they feel the fire is too big to handle on their own, teach them to call the local fire department or 911 instead.
Use a safe, controlled fire when you’re demonstrating. You can use paper burning in a metal trash can, a small grill fire, a controlled fire pit, or the like.
Then, use the Hero Fire Spray to put out the fire. Once your kids have seen you put out the fire, let them try.
Instruct them to hold the Hero Fire Spray. With your guidance, let them tear the tab off. Show them where to aim the nozzle and let them spray from side to side.

3. Discuss with your children what to do during a fire.
Avoid being too serious since it can frighten your kids. However, be serious enough to get your point across. Here are the main points your children should know:
- The Hero Fire Spray is designed to put out small fires only.
- A grease fire gets worse if you pour water over it. They should use the Hero Fire Spray instead.
- They must be three to four feet from the fire for the Hero Fire Spray to work.
- They should aim at the base of the fire.
- Smoke is dangerous, so they should cover their mouth before approaching the fire.
4. Practice and review how to use the Hero Fire Spray regularly.
Practice until your kids know how to use the Hero Fire Spray by heart. You can make it a game or a quiz. Kids are more likely to remember how to use the fire spray if you make it fun for them.
